Bills Interest in Crumpler?
Friday, the Atlanta Falcons cut 30 year old Pro Bowl TE Alge Crumpler. With the Bills seeking an upgrade at the position, could they have an interest in signing the four-time Pro Bowler?
That probably depends on what they think about the talent in the draft, and whether its better than what Crumpler can give them now. Crumpler is coming off a knee injury that limited his playing time and catches in 2006. His numbers have been on a decline in the last few years. But unlike a rookie, he can produce immmediately. Are they looking to replace Robert Royal, the current starter, or supplement him with a rookie who will split time? Is someone like USC's Fred Davis (the top-ranked rookie tight end) give the team more of what its looking for, which is a downfield threat at the position? That's probably not Crumpler. There are no early indications that the Bills are interested. But maybe once they check out the talent at the combine, they may change their mind. Crumpler might not still be available much longer so that decision will have to made quickly.
**Alge Crumpler's father, Carlester, was drafted by the Bills in 1974.
