Darcy Does It Again

You've got to give him credit--when Darcy Regier says he'll make a move, he usually makes a move. He weathered a two-day storm of criticism when the hot free agent defensemen went off the board, and engineered an Independence Day trade for Craig Rivet. Regier once again demonstrated he has limitless patience, and he doesn't really care about carping from media and fans. He identifies who he wants, and waits until the time is right.
Rivet (above) is a good pickup for the Sabres. He still eats up minutes, even at the age of 33. The Sabres are going to assume his $3.5 million dollar a year contract (which looks like the going rate for veteran blueliners) and plug him right into the lineup. Even after passing on Brooks Orpik, Mike Commodore and others, Regier spent a couple of days putting the pieces in place to bring Rivet to Buffalo
With a surplus of forwards, the Sabres are not likely to miss Steve Bernier.
Like a good chess player, Regier was able to see a couple of moves ahead, accurately predicting that he may have to make a trade to get a defensemen who fits what the Sabres need.
What do you think of the Rivet trade? Will the Sabres miss Bernier? And did they get enough in the Brian Campbell trade? Let us know what you think.

Not so sure this is a great move. Its seems like Orpik would have been a better deal. He is alot younger and would have only been marginally more money per season. In addition we would still have 2 future draft picks. Rivet may be a fine defensemen but i think we could have done better with Orpik.
Yet Orpik signed or re-signed with the Pens. Darcy got the best available @ the time I think.
Only time will tell if this will help or hurt the Sabres
too sum up sabres .....BORING!!!!!!!!
Seems the media is is getting pork barrel bonuses for backing every move this organization makes. Not a big Ted Nolan fan, but when he was here we had an exciting, talked about team throughout the league and a few players away from a possible cup. 12 years later we are regressing. No team fears coming in our building. Numminen, Connolly sit out most of the season. No start on this team that can go out and get the winning or tying goal.Ruff plays favorites and distances players from each other to gain control. The chemistry is gone. Ray,Barnaby,Boughner,May. Hasek never would get run like they do to Miller. And is Miller really that good.Look at the teams draft picks that bombed.Krutov,Heisten for example. The Sabres need no helmets or pads because they hit no one. There is a big cover up here and the loyal fans are paying the price. There is more contact in soccer then Sabres hockey.
