Peters Principle
It's only a voluntary session, but it's nice to see such a large turnout of veterans at the Bills Organized Team Activity this week. There have been some notable absentees, however. Lee Evans missed Wednesday's workout, after participating on a limited basis the first two days. Evans is coming back from offseason shoulder surgery. J.P. Losman was on hand Monday, but he's been out the rest of the week. Losman had some family considerations that took him away from the team.
Pro Bowl OT Jason Peters has been the most mysterious absentee. He hasn't been around all week, and it could be a contract problem. We put in a call to Peters' agent earlier today, and we're still waiting for a callback. But team sources say Peters may be looking for a new deal, to replace the one he signed two years ago. At that time, Peters signed a five year contract that pays him about $4 million annually. He may be able to make the argument that he's outperformed that contract, especially when he compares it to some of his teammates on the offensive line (Dockery, Walker, for example). Peters also underwent surgery for a hernia in the offseason, so that may be what's keeping him away from the voluntary minicamp. Head Coach Dick Jauron may provide some answers when he meets the media tomorrow.

Guys, seriously, OTA's in May have the value of a wet noodle.
It's a joke you're talking so much about this nonsense.
Is Buffalo such a narrow-minded sports town that this is what's tops on the list of things to talk about right now?
Hopefully Peters missing is related to the surgery and not the contract. Nonsense? As a Bills fan, I am very interested in what is happening with this team.
I was curious if these OTAs have a schedule like training camp does? I realize they are not open to the public, but I am just curious what the schedule is like leading up to training camp. GO BILLS and end the playoff drought!!!!
Good question about the OTA schedule. The Bills have wrapped up week one of this year's OTA. They practiced Monday-through Thursday this week, now they're off through the weekend and return on Monday.
Next week, they practice Tuesday May 27th through Thursday May 29th. The following week, they go Tuesday June 3rd through Friday June 6th. And the final two OTAs are Monday June 9th, and Tuesday June 10th. Right after that, the mandatory three-day minicamp is held, Wednesday June 11th through Friday June 13th. Then the players are off until training camp begins, probably on July 24th.
It is a voluntary minicap for most of the OTAs, but the Bills encourage their players to attend. The typical day begins around 8am with meetings with the coaches, then they hit the field from 1030am-12noon. After that, many players lift weights and work on conditioning for a couple of hours before calling it a day. The practice work is light, non contact, no pads. It's mostly aimed at installing offensive and defensive systems and repetition of plays.
Thanks for your interest.
How has Steve Johnson looked? Any chance you think he makes the roster? He is probably the underdog I am rooting for the most.
