Sabres Free Agents

The Sabres have some work ahead of them this summer. Their unrestricted list includes: defenseman: Nolan Pratt, and Dmitri Kalinin. 4th line forward, Michael Ryan is also unrestricted. The restricted group is forwards: Steve Bernier, Paul Gaustad, and Danny Paille. The real work will be trying to lock up Ryan Miller after July 1st. He'll be unrestricted next season, along with Max Afinogenov, Tim Connolly, Jaroslav Spacek, Ales Kotalik, and Adrew Peters. Let's see if the Sabres management can mess this one up. You may not be too excited at the season Miller had, but the reality is that he is a top 10 goalie in this league. He will get better (if their defenseman get better), and they will have to pay him big bucks to stick around. He made 2.5 million this year, and will make 3.5 next season. He'll likely get around 5 or 6 million a season from Buffalo if he decides to sign. I would think the management in Detroit has Miller on their radar. He's from Michigan, and they'll need someone to replace Dominik Hasek when he retires. Their back-up is Chris Osgood who spilt the season in goal with Hasek this season. The Red Wings are committed to winning. Are the Sabres? We'll find out as we watch to see how they address their free agent situation this summer.
