Will the Sabres make the Playoffs?

If you've been watching the first period of tonight's game against Carolina you would have to say no, and likely have you head shaking wondering what's wrong with this team. The Sabres got some help today when Boston beat Washington which allowed the Sabres to stay in the 9th spot in the East, rather than falling to the 10th spot.
The Sabres showed no sign of desperation in the 1st period and were clearly outworked by the Hurricanes. Although they've scored in the 2nd period, they gave up another goal to Carolina right after. They're down 3-1 and it seems hard to believe that this team will find a way into the playoff picture with the way they're playing.
