Sabres hold onto 9th spot in East
The Sabres fell to 5 points behind the Flyers tonight, but did manage to stay in the 9th spot in the playoff race. Philly's win over the Islanders gave them a more comfortable lead on the final playoff spot. The Sabres 4-3 overtime loss gave them one point, which with 13 games left is better than no points. Still, the Sabres have put themselves in a tough spot. I know they feel like they can still control their own destiny, but the reality is they don't! Unless the teams ahead of them start to lose, (and yes they do face a number of those teams in their remaining 13 games) they have no shot at the post season. Realistically they need 8 or 9 wins over this final stretch. It's going to be difficult. They host the Rangers on Monday, a team that they have had very little success against all season. This week it's the Rangers, Penguins, Carolina again, and Toronto. We should know by the end of the week where they stand.

Right on Robin! They can say they control their destiny, and pull out all those worn out cliches'... but looking at all the play-off caliber teams on the schedule coming up... and this team's propensity for letting opportunity slip away so many times this season.... it may Sabres on the outside looking in this time around.
